For the second year in a row, the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), the Autonomous University Foundation, the Madrid Bar Association and the Professor Uría, Cuatrecasas, Fernando Pombo and Garrigues Foundations are organizing the course “The Legal Profession in the 21st Century and the Solidary Lawyer. Basic Notions of Social Responsibility”.
This course is based on four fundamental concepts:
- Lawyers are capable of transforming the society in which they work, by promoting an improvement in the rights and access to justice of the neediest.
- Future lawyers need to understand the role of corporate social responsibility as part of their normal professional activity;
- The legal profession, like the corporate sector, needs to include social responsibility measures in its strategic plan;
- Training in corporate social responsibility encourages interaction between the so-called volunteer sector and the legal profession.
The course consists of 20 classroom hours, divided among the following modules:
Social Responsibility, Free Legal Assistance in Spain, Human Rights, Pro Bono and Professional Deontology.
The course is directed by Ms. Candela Galán, Full Professor of Procedural Law at the UAM and Mr. Joaquín García-Romanillos, chairman of the Fernando Pombo Foundation.
