BEST LEGAL MONOGRAPH OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Foundation’s publication El papel del abogado en la implantación de los principios Ruggie: 8 buenas prácticas para abogados de negocio (which translates as ‘The lawyer’s role in the implementation of the Ruggie principles: 8 best practices for business lawyers’) has been awarded the Barcelona Bar Association’s Premio jurídico Memorial Degá Roda i Ventura for the best legal monograph of the year, a distinction that constitutes further acknowledgment of our legal innovation and public interest lawyering work towards the advancement and advocacy of justice, the rule of law and human rights. The book is the outcome of several years of research in this new field of interest for law and business, where the Foundation pioneers a legal analysis of the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
FERNANDO POMBO FOUNDATION HAS BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR 2016 EUROPEAN PRO BONO AWARD FOR ITS MULTIPLÍCATE PROGRAM
For the second consecutive year, the Foundation has gained recognition at the European Pro Bono Awards. On this occasion, the distinguished initiative has been “MULTIPLÍCATE: the future of the legal profession & legal clinics“, a pioneering project of the Foundation that seeks to involve today tomorrow’s lawyers in defending the rights of the underprivileged. MULTIPLÍCATE is a global project in which we promote the creation of legal clinics, the training of new lawyers in social responsibility and the involvement of experienced lawyers in the legal and social training of new lawyers. Since 2011, in MULTIPLÍCATE we share our knowledge and experience on Pro Bono work and the lawyer’s role in the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
These awards are granted by PILnet (The Global Network for Public Interest Law) during the European Pro Bono Forum. In 2015, PILnet also distinguished the Foundation for its II EXEQUO Project: lawyers against gender-based violence.
CRISTINA PUIGDENGOLAS, ATTORNEY AT THE FERNANDO POMBO FOUNDATION, SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2016 IBA PRO BONO LAWYER AWARD
Cristina Puigdengolas was shortlisted for the 2016 IBA Pro Bono Award, which acknowledges the career and commitment of pro bono lawyers from all over the world.
After 20 years of experience as a corporate lawyer in different European multinationals –such as Telefónica, UniCredit, KPMG, Praxair and Bank of New York Melon–, Cristina decided to work as a full-time social lawyer.
Cristina has been a pro bono lawyer at the Foundation for more than two years and has contributed to the strengthening of the pro bono culture in Spain. She has managed several legal projects, such as the UNIR – Fernando Pombo Foundation Legal Clinic. Cristina was selected to develop the EXEQUO Project of the Fernando Pombo Foundation, focused on the legal needs of the homeless, and now coordinates the Foundation’s “Human Rights and Companies: the role of the legal profession” Project.
EXEQUO, FINALIST PROJECT OF THE ANNUAL EUROPEAN PRO BONO AWARD
EXEQUO project of the Fernando Pombo Foundation has been internationally recognized as finalist in the Annual European Pro Bono Award delivered every year by PILnet (The Global Network for Public Interest Law) for being innovative and social impacting .
With this nomination, EXEQUO Project already accumulates three important recognitions that encourage us to continue innovating in the development of pro bono and social engagement of the legal profession.
Project EXEQUO of Fernando Pombo Foundation, has been selected as finalist in the VI Corresponsables awards. CORRESPONSABLES is the guiding magazine in Spain and Latin America in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability.
EXEQUO is aimed to boost the legal profession in committing with the unprivileged. In 2014 it was focused on Homeless rights and the publishing of a Practical Guide on Legal Issues of Homeless population was the result of several months of work and a pioneering tool.
EXEQUO has been selected from 297 applications: 42% come from Spain but there have also been initiatives from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Honduras, Paraguay and Uruguay. Corresponsables awards are open to any type of organization of any country to distinguish best practices in Social Responsibility and Sustainability.
Project EXEQUO has been distinguished as innovative legal program in Social Responsibility by the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers 2014 Report – Europe.
The project is a pioneering initiative aimed to boost the legal profession in committing with Justice and Human Rights, especially with regards to the unprivileged.
Fernando Pombo Foundation has been selected for the fifth edition of Botín Foundation CARING TALENT PROGRAM. The program aims to promote social organizations in hiring unemployed high-standard professionals to implement social projects, in order to support the Social Sector professionalization.
The Fernando Pombo Foundation selected Project is the Pro Bono Channel through which the Foundation impulse legal projects with social impact aimed to multiply results.
The Food Bank of Madrid, in celebrating its twentieth anniversary, has awarded Fernando Pombo Foundation for its contribution and support during 2014. Fernando Pombo Foundation works closely with the Food Bank of Madrid, providing pro bono legal advice and organizing volunteer work events to support the distribution of food.
At the World Rare Disease Day 2013, the Spanish Federation for Rare Disease (FEDER) distinguished Fernando Pombo Foundation with the “Promotion and Advocacy” award in recognition of the Foundation commitment to rare diseases’ patients in finding legal solutions to strengthen the patients and their families rights.
